Candidates should have (a) a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Electronic Engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic / polytechnic university or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) / technical college / technical institute, or equivalent; (b) 3 years’ post-qualification experience in the installation, maintenance and operation of telecommunications or electronic equipment; and © met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or equivalent [see Note (1)]; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English.
An Assistant Police Telecommunications Inspector is mainly deployed on (a) assisting in the upkeep of the telecommunications networks and ensuring the smooth operation of workshop or section to which they are assigned; (b) undertaking the development and predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance of radio, radar, line communications, video, audio and visual equipment and ancillary electronic equipment; © assisting in the administration and supervision of maintenance contracts of radio, radar, line communications, video, audio and visual equipment and ancillary electronic equipment; (d) carrying out installation and inspection of radio, radar, line communications, video, audio and visual equipment and ancillary electronic equipment; (e) preparing technical drawings/reports and updating records; (f) responding to user enquiries on information communications technology related systems/equipment; and (g) providing operation and service support of telecommunications networks, video, audio and visual equipment and ancillary electronic equipment.
(Note : Required to work shifts and to be ‘on-call’ outside normal office hours.)
Terms of Appointment:
A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications.
