Entry Requirements:

Candidates should have -

(a) obtained a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Building Studies from a Hong Kong polytechnic university / polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or a technical institute / technical college, or equivalent; and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [Note(1)], or equivalent.

Duties:

A Technical Officer (Civil) is mainly deployed on –

(a) preparing civil engineering drawings, project displays and presentation works;
(b) making calculations, designs, and plotting related to engineering surveys and minor civil engineering works;
© assisting in maintaining computer based information systems and departmental Homepage; and
(d) assisting in the training of junior staff.
(Note : Selected candidates may be posted to other government departments; and may be required to work shifts or irregular hours, perform outdoor duties, and perform emergency and on-call duties during typhoon, severe weather conditions and other emergency events.)

Terms of Appointment:

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. (a) Application Forms (G.F. 340 [(Rev. 3/2013)]) are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau’s website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).


(b) All completed application forms, together with copies of academic qualifications and technical qualifications (including official transcript), must be submitted on or before the closing date for application (4 May 2021) by post to the Appointment and Establishment Section, Highways Department, 5th floor, Ho Man Tin Government Offices, 88 Chung Hau Street, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, with the envelope clearly marked with “Application for Technical Officer (Civil)”. The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of application. To avoid unsuccessful delivery of mail items, please ensure that the address on the envelope is clear and correct and sufficient postage has been paid. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will not be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. An applicant will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage.
