Entry Requirements:

Candidates should have –


(a) a veterinary qualification registrable in Hong Kong under the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance, Cap. 529 (Note 2); and
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (Note 3) .

Duties:

A Veterinary Officer is mainly deployed on investigation, diagnosis, control and prevention of animal diseases and zoonoses; monitoring and enhancement of animal welfare; inspection of animals and animal products for import and export; and licensing and enforcement of relevant legislation.


(Note: May be required to work irregular hours and shifts; be posted to other departments such as Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Leisure and Cultural Services Department; work in the New Territories; and drive a departmental vehicle.)


Terms of Appointment:

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.
