Entry Requirements:

Candidates should have [Note (2)] -

(a) a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from an institute recognised by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong, or equivalent;
(b) registered in Hong Kong as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part II of the Register of Medical Laboratory Technologists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance (Cap. 359);
© a valid Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board of Hong Kong; and
(d) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 2” or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note (3)].


Performing general and specialised laboratory tests; quality control; preparation of reagents and media; assisting in evaluation of testing methodologies and equipment, surveillance of infectious diseases of public health significance and research; and other duties as assigned.

Note : required to work irregular hours and perform shift duties to provide 24-hour coverage, work on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Terms of Appointment:

Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 6 to 12 months. Renewal of contract will be subject to the service need of the Department and the performance of the candidate.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/ Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. The application period for the post of Contract Medical Laboratory Technician is from 1 April 2021 (Thursday) to 14 April 2021 (Wednesday). Applicants should state in detail in the application form their relevant full-time working experience in the medical laboratory service after registration in Hong Kong as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Part II of the Register of Medical Laboratory Technologists under the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance (Cap. 359) and the registration number.

For qualifications awarded by local institutions/ Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, copies of the relevant transcripts/ diplomas/ certificates/ other qualification documents are not required to be submitted at this stage of application. As for qualifications obtained from institutions outside Hong Kong, copies of the relevant transcripts/ diplomas/ certificates or other qualification documents should be submitted together with the completed application forms.

The on-line application number and the title of the post being applied for should be quoted on the envelope and copies of the supporting documents.
