Description: Position : Patient Care Assistant II Office : Pathology Hospital : Kowloon West Cluster/ Princess Margaret Hospital Pay : HK$17,888 – HK$22,357 per month (See Remark 7) Responsibilities 1. Specimen reception including sorting, labelling, and registration of clinical specimens received. 2. Assist in packing specimens for sending out to other hospital. 3. Assist in preparation of culture media, chemicals, reagents and sterilized products for laboratory use. 4. Operation, cleaning and disinfection of water baths, centrifuges, PTTS, biological safety cabinets and fume hood. 5. Operation, cleaning and disinfection of refrigerators and freezers. 6. Record instrument data such as taking temperature for refrigerators, freezers, incubators and water baths. 7. Assist in calibration of temperature controlled equipment. 8. Assist in stock checking laboratory reagents and consumables. 9. Communicate with the hospital central porter team in handover of the monthly laboratory stock items to clinical end users where applicable. 10. Routine laboratory work such as decontamination and cleaning of laboratory equipment, cleaning and disinfection of lab benches, washing apparatus and perform basic maintenance for minor equipment. 11. Routine laboratory preparation works for microscopic examination, biochemical testing and microorganism propagation. 12. General cleaning of the laboratory. 13. Handling of telephone enquiries. 14. Handling and disposal of clinical and chemical wastes and infectious waste. 15. Assist in filing documents. 16. Required to work at irregular hours and perform shift duties including night shifts. 17. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Requirements 1. Completed F.5 / S.5 or equivalent. (see Remark 1) 2. Completion of the structured departmental training. (see Remark 7) Preferable Attributes 1. Knowledge of computer. 2. Communication skills. 3. Good command of English and Chinese. Remarks For Serving HA Staff 1. Serving staff with F.3 / S.3 standard and 2 years’ care-related work experience may also be considered. 2. The selected candidates will be offered contract or fixed terms appointment for 1 year depending on his/her existing employment terms. 3. The offer of salary to serving employees upon changes in appointment will be determined based on the remuneration package/employment terms of the staff concerned and prevailing policies. For External Applicants 4. Appointment will be on contract terms for 1 year . 5% of total basic salary as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered upon satisfactory completion of contract. 5. Retiring / retired HA staff who wish to continue working for HA after their normal retirement may also apply. If selected, the terms and conditions of employment will be offered in accordance with prevailing policies of the Retired and Rejoin Mechanism of HA. For All Applicants 6. The renewal / extension of appointment will be subject to service needs, availability of funding and job performance. 7. Candidates who do not meet the entry requirement (2) may also apply. If the candidates are found suitable for appointment, they will be employed to undergo an at least 6 months’ on the job training which includes a structured departmental training. During the training period, they will be appointed as Patient Care Assistant IIIA with monthly salary of $14,958 to provide service and to receive relevant in-service training. Upon satisfactory completion of the in-service training and passing the requisite assessment/ examination, they will be appointed as Patient Care Assistant II with monthly salary of $17,888. If an appointed candidate does not pass the requisite assessment/ examination, his/her employment may be terminated. 8. The selected candidate(s) may be required to work shift, irregular hours and may be required to attend duties during typhoons, black rainstorm warnings and other emergencies. 9. The selected candidate(s) will be posted to Princess Margaret Hospital and may be required to work in another working location to meet service needs of the HA. 10.
