Job Description

The University is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Yuen Campus team in Hong Kong.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director will be responsible for marketing faculty-lead, multi-institutional activities held both in-person and online. The role with include working with the events team and development of marketing, public relations and communications initiatives using the latest in online and off-line marketing techniques.

The Associate Director will work closely with the Executive Director, UChicago Global, Faculty Director and other Hong Kong and Chicago team members (including Beijing and Delhi Centers) to deliver high-quality events. These online, in-person and hybrid (in-person and simultaneously online) events will require thorough post-event data impact analytics and insights to improve event outcome, audience participation and the participant experience.

He/She will also work with the Heritage Team to promote community-focused heritage exhibitions and tours for local community engagement, and serve as a liaison to bridge between and among working groups, and internal and external stakeholders of the Heritage Interpretation Center.

This position will also assist in a wide variety of special projects and other events as assigned by the Executive Director of the UChicago Yuen Campus.


  1. Social Media, Traditional Marketing, PR & Communications

Social Media and Traditional Marketing, PR & Communications Strategy – Assist Executive Director to devise an overall marketing and communication strategy to support UChicago and Yuen Campus priorities.
Curation – Curate and develop the most relevant and most impactful UChicago content for the Asia region to build audience.
Website Content & Engagement – Oversee website development through the curation of relevant and appropriate content to engage audience, particularly in Asia (for the Yuen Campus website) and local community (for the Heritage website).
Enews/ Mailing List – Oversee data acquisition (emails and alumni and community information), communication schedules and curation of regular enews, monthly UChicago Insights, quarterly Heritage enews, News Flash and other communications to specific groups including alumni and the broader Asia community at large. Maintain a steady growth of enews subscriptions with an average open rate of >30%.
Social Media – Provide content and input to Facebook communications and promotion strategies for key Asia and currently untapped markets. Explore new and other effective social media platforms and partnerships for Asian markets, particularly for the China audience including Instagram, LinkedIn, Youtube, Billibilii, WeChat, Line, Phoenix TV and other methods of electronic communication.
Channel Distribution – Through a partner strategy, broaden distribution channels of Yuen Campus/University content by reaching out to external groups and organizations, locally or regionally.
Creative, Artwork & Video production – Oversee the team to produce high-quality marketing collateral which will appeal to and reflect an Asia-based audience. Oversee event/post-event video production with captioning if required to increase traffic of Yuen Campus Youtube and other channels.
Data Analytics and Reporting – Conceive of the types of post-event data that are meaningful and prepare marketing reports with thorough data analytics and insights that are actionable to improve future event outcomes.
Public/Media Relations – Liaise with the local PR agency in collaboration with other university units on public relations and media support. Approve Chinese content for media outreach and communication.
Assist Executive Director with a wide range of additional activities as required.

  1. Event Promotion & Reporting

Faculty Conferences, Yuen Lecture Series/ Heritage Talks/ Public Events – Work closely with other campus team members to promote faculty conferences and public lectures, either online or in-person or hybrid, as assigned by Executive Director. Provide copies for marketing material and support team members on program delivery.
Create Yuen Campus Event Calendar – Work closely with Executive Director, other campus staff and university units to develop an event calendar with a wide range of programs and topics which engage students, alumni and members of the Hong Kong and broader Asia/Global community.
Post-event Follow-up – Provide guidelines for the post-event follow-up which includes event reports, data administration, mailing list management, event video production, photo archives etc.
Data Analysis/ Participant Engagement – Provide regular event reports to identify strong supporters of Yuen Campus activities and provide recommendations to further engage active alumni and support participants.
Annual Reporting – Prepare the annual report on event, marketing and PR for the Yuen Campus Hong Kong by August. Provide regular updates/data points as requested by Executive Director for leadership meeting.
Assist Executive Director with a wide range of additional activities as required.

  1. Heritage Interpretation Center Activities

Public Heritage Tours– Be involved directly with team members to oversee the planning, scheduling and execution of heritage tours with the support of docents to fullfil the KPI of Hong Kong Jockey Club. Work with campus operations team on the daily operations of the Heritage Interpretation Centre. Review and streamline the process to promote the Heritage Interpretation Center and tours to enhance visitors’ tour experiences, including virtual heritage tour.
Rotating Exhibitions and Heritage Talks – Promote heritage exhibitions and talks to engage local community members and fullfil the KPI of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

  1. Other duties as assigned.


Deliver effective and executable marketing strategy and plan to increase the visibility of the University of Chicago and the Yuen Campus through a combination of various distribution channels and social media.
Increase enews subscriptions significantly.
Effectively promote high-quality events of a wide range of topics to engage local and global audience through virtual (and in-person when situation allows) events.
Identify a methodology and approach to tracking “Golden Circle” participants of Yuen Campus events and further engage active participants to help advance Yuen Campus priorities.
Support smooth and safe resumption of heritage tours during COVID-19.
Support heritage talks and rotating exhibitions.
Meet project deadlines and targets.
Maintain a high level of efficiency, accuracy, timeliness and organization of all assigned tasks.
Be discreet at all times and protect the confidentiality of University and senior leadership information.


Reports to the Executive Director


Bachelor’s Degree, with 8-10 years of working experience in social media and traditional marketing and communications, public/media relations and event management.
Experience in social media, data analytics, creative writing and production including video editing and production.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluent spoken Mandarin and Cantonese, written Chinese (both traditional and simplified) are also required.
Knowledge of or a strong interest in heritage/conservation and experience in public tour operations is preferred.
Working knowledge of university/academic culture a plus.
A self-starter and a team player with strong sense of ownership and responsibility (start-up DNA).
Ready and enthusiastically willing to be hands-on for all projects with minimal supervision.
Ability to work independently in a small team.
Attention to analytical and writing details and ability to multi-task to meet project deadlines.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Experience in research, writing and data reporting a plus.
Demonstrated ability to be resourceful and creative in solving problems.
Ability to work flexible hours according to event schedules, heritage/VIP tour requests, which will include some late evenings, weekends and possibly public holidays.
Must be able to work legally in Hong Kong on a permanent basis.


The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, the University of Chicago offers an attractive benefits package including 20 days holiday per year – prorated (excluding Hong Kong Public Holidays), MPF contribution, and private medical insurance.
